I was just a flaming wolf—my hair color made a lot more sense now. I wasn’t a sunrise. I was a forest fire.
this was beyond my control. The fire wolf was in charge, and she gave zero fucks.
we were some sort of damn shadow whisperer.
His fury was spinning out of control, bursting from him in flames and dark mist, breaking this town to rubble. I’d always wanted a mate who would burn the world down for me, and it looked like I’d get to pretend I had one for a few more minutes.
Midnight was the only one able to communicate with me. Shadow will not let any of us get close to you. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, but I wasn’t mad.
“You were almost gone,” he thundered. I’d never been so relieved to hear his voice. “You’re in so much fucking trouble, Sunshine.”
“If we didn’t have a very large audience,” he murmured close to my ear, “I would show you exactly what happens when you almost die on my watch.” “Fuck.” I groaned again. “Can you get rid of them?” “I can hear you!” Angel shouted,
Shadow, Angel, Midnight, and Inky—I’d legit found myself a pack without even knowing I’d been looking for one.
It was a lot to handle, being this close to him and not jumping his bones. There was only so much to be expected from my self-control.
God problems, amiright?
“A mist bonded to a mortal,” he mused. “You, my dear, are a mystery I’d like to unravel.” Flames appeared in Shadow’s eyes, and I wasn’t sure of the reason, but he did shift to block Kristoff’s view of me. “We do need to find out her secrets,” he said, “but she’s mine. You cannot claim her.”
When he went all possessive alpha on me, it fucked me up mentally and physically. Shadow was my trauma and I didn’t even care.
Fuck. I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t lean on him any longer; that time was done, and even if we managed to get that one round of fucking in before we were torn apart, it would change nothing.
He smiled. A genuine smile, and fuck, if it didn’t do bad things to me.
“You’re a mystery I need to unravel,”
“I’m drawn to your energy. I’m feeling…” He paused. “I’m feeling, Sunshine. It’s an issue because any sort of weakness could stand between me and my need for revenge.”
“Then why do I want to possess the person you are so badly, little wolf?”
“From the second you touched the Shadow Realm, you have been a forbidden torment. And I don’t think I can let this journey end without having this taste of you.”
“You already tasted,” I choked out. “Not enough,” he said, so low, I could barely hear.
“Sunshine, I’m going to need you to say the words.”
“You will get on your knees for no one but me. Ever.”
“I’m going to need you to say it, Sunshine,”
“I submit to you. For this day, and this day only, you’re my master.”
One night with the devil. I was taking it, no matter the consequences.
He was a fucking work of art, covered in the most incredible moving images. Perfection, wrapping up a dark soul, that I wanted to possess. This one night would be worth everything that it cost me.
“Jesus, fuck. Jesus.” He stopped. “That’s not the god here, Sunshine. Use my name.” “Shadow.”
“it will fit, Sunshine.” Aanndd my pussy was doing the samba again.
“Virgin mouth, and tonight it belongs to me.”
“Not on my watch, Sunshine,” he rumbled. “ I’ve had to listen to you bring yourself to orgasm too many times in the lair. Today, your pussy belongs to me.”
My god, his dirty fucking mouth was perfection.
“Why did you choose me for your first kiss?”
“In thousands of years, you’re the first being to cross my path and give me a reason to fight for a different future. I never saw you coming, and I never anticipated you would wreak such havoc on both me and my life. There was no one else who was worthy.”
I never kissed a single being in the time I was exiled from my world, but then you exploded into my life. Full of sass and fucking questions, with hair of a sunset, and a temper to equal my own. The gods themselves couldn’t have stopped me from claiming you.”
“Every nerve ending,”
“They’re all mine to bring to life.”
“Whom do you belong to, little wolf?” I groaned, my head still spinning from my orgasm. “You.” “Say my name.” It was a command, and I was helpless to fight it. “Shadow Beast. I belong to the Shadow Beast.” His chest rumbled and I felt how pleased he was. “Sorry, Sunshine, but I am who I am.”
“You are never predictable, little wolf. Now shut up and let me fuck you.”
“I understand now why the women leave you satisfied and broken.”
Our moment was over, long before I was ready, but this was for the best. Another taste and there was almost no way I’d ever be able to walk away.
“Sunshine, you will get your fucking ass inside, or the next time I have you naked, the punishment will be so much worse.”
Did I maybe want to find out what the next punishment would be? I mean… for research purposes, of course.
“Creatures are kind of my jam. Maybe I’ll be the one to protect you. Are you looking for a knight in shining armor?” His expression could have melted the polar ice caps, and I didn’t blame him. It probably wasn’t the best time for joking, but once again, it was laugh or cry. Story of my life.
Shadow’s eyes darkened. “It was more enjoyable than I anticipated, dressing you in exactly what I wanted.” Now that time I’d had no underwear made perfect sense. Motherfucker. “Fuck, dude. You’re lucky that you have decent taste in outfits.”
I’d never met a man who reveled so much in giving pleasure, without just taking it for himself. Shadow’s mate was one fucking lucky lady. If she could just put up with the dominant side of him, she’d certainly never want for anything in the bedroom. I really hoped the bitch was dead. Such a terrible thing to say, but my possessiveness of Shadow had reached new heights.
As I’d told Shadow many a time, if you wanted to capture me, you had to buy me dinner first. It was only polite.
He used to push, push, push, always keeping me away from him, but now… He drew me closer to his heat.
“Were you really going to try to pat that being like it was a literal cat?” I shrugged. “What can I say? It’s been ‘Cat-man’ in my head since we first saw him, and… he’s really fluffy.”
“Sunshine?” I shook my head. “No, nothing. Just… It’s weird, but I feel like we’re a pack. A team.” The flames roared to life in his eyes, a sure sign his emotions were getting involved. “They’re going to wish they never put you in danger, little wolf,” he whispered ominously. “Whatever diplomacy I felt was dashed the moment you got involved. Now, it just might be a bloodbath.”
Had I just heard him correctly? Was I important enough now that he would kill them all to protect me? And why was there a fucked up part of me that liked this side of him the most?
Nice, they’d been true mates since fucking birth. How sweet—cough, cough, gross cough.
