It clings to the flawed rationalization that we all should be “perfect” or “should know better.” Any perception of a “mistake” is unacceptable. Judgment is obsessed with “should” and “should not,” right and wrong, good and bad. All of these are defense mechanisms of the ego that it uses to protect itself from ever being hurt again—accidentally becoming the new source of its pain.
