There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”

Another example of misrepresenting a quote. What Dr. Fauci is saying here is that wearing a mask can give someone a false sense of security. Just because you have a mask doesn't mean you won't get the disease and improper use of the mask (such as fiddling with it and continuing to touch your face) diminish what little effectiveness it has in protecting the wearer. (again masks are more about protecting others than protecting the wearer) This is all true and is important for those wearing masks to know. One: just because you have a mask doesn't mean you are safe, and Two: improper mask usage makes it less effective. Without the knowledge of these two things a wearer is more likely to engage in risky behaviour becuase they "think" they are basically immune, when in reality that isn't the case.
