“Oh, my little Persephone,”
legitimizing our marriage and solidifying my obsession once and for all.
if Kal Anderson asked me to tear my bleeding heart out of my chest and serve it to him on a silver platter, I’d do it, no questions asked.
Might be married for love and not because I needed a queen on my side of the board.
“I’ll admit, your jealousy is fucking delectable, little one.
“But what it tells me, with us, is that you’re as fucking crazy as I am.”
“The thought of you even looking at someone else fills me with an indescribable ache,”
“You. Make. Me. Feel. Alive.”
“You make me want to spill every secret I’ve ever had, Elena. That’s not something that happens…well, ever. Not for me.”
“I wouldn’t mind, if it was you.” His words are harsh, quiet, and uneasy. “It’d be my life’s honor, I think. Going out your hand.”
“Consider this your…Elysium, my little Persephone.”
So even though it feels like I’m skinning myself alive as I begin popping open the buttons on my shirt, I do it anyway.
“You’re not unlucky,”
“I certainly don’t feel like I am right now.”
I’m in love with my husband.
Nor would it matter that I was trying to protect her and extract myself from this world when I did it.
You are the only one who knows anything about me.
“My middle name is Asher.”
“Kallum Asher Anderson,”
“My name sounds like a prayer coming from these pretty pink lips,”
“We don’t do anything. Don’t tell me to open up about how I’m feeling when you’ve been lying to me the entire time I’ve known you.”
It’s Elena’s innate goodness that makes the loss fucking unbearable.
Without her, I feel like one half of a soul, existing aimlessly, waiting for the earth to reclaim me the way I have so many others.
She’s only been gone for minutes, and all I can focus on is her absence.
“What I feel for you isn’t even in the same fucking universe.”
Every part of me belongs to my wife.
“You consumed me from the moment you approached me at that cocktail party years ago. I’ve not even thought about another woman since.”
She’s my magnum opus. An oil painting I want hanging on my wall for the rest of eternity.
It’s like trying to live without the fucking sun.
“Maybe you should refresh my memory,” he says, dropping to his knees, his hands immediately skimming up the sides of my thighs.
“I’m in love with you, Elena.”
You cannot love a person fully without knowing the darkness etched into their soul.
“Mark me,” he says, holding out the blade.
Best case scenario: if we divorce and he hooks up with someone else down the line, at least they’ll see another girl’s initials carved into his skin. It’d serve him right. Worst case: I cut too deep, and he bleeds out and dies.
“Fuck, I’m so in love with you, Elena Ricci. Do you believe me now?”
“Anderson,” I say, correcting him with a grin. “I filed to have it changed legally.
That she came back to me. The beast’s beauty. Hades and Persephone.
Persephone eating the seed, tying her to the Underworld indefinitely.
She’s here to stay, and the darkness inside me starts to feel a little less heavy.
Initially, there was no one blackmailing Ricci Inc. at all. It was just me.
