“Have you ever been kissed, little rabbit?” I ask, stroking my thumb over his bottom lip.
I stare at him in surprise as I take the items from him. “What if I’m a criminal? You ain’t even gonna run a background check?” “If you’re a cr-criminal, you need a job even mmm-more.”
“Sweet tea?” the waiter repeats as if Barrett’s speaking another language. “Yes,” he says calmly, when the waiter continues to look confused, he changes tactics. “How about regular tea?” The waiter nods. “Ice? Sugar?” He continues to nod to each question. “Perfect, bring me tea with ice in it and sugar.”
“Cute,” Kiernan says, his voice dripping with amusement. I glance over and find Em blushing like crazy. He tries to pull his hand back, but Kiernan holds onto it for a few extra seconds before releasing it. “Don’t scare people who are here to ask us for money, Kier,” Barrett scolds.
“Let them stare,” he growls. “I don’t give a single fuck about any of them. You do belong. You belong wherever I am, now and always. And you don’t just belong there because of me. You have more beauty and substance both inside and out than a single other person in any room you step into.”
