The noise of my cracking vertebrae makes a passing noble couple shudder uncontrollably. I hold up a hand and smile at them in a “you’re welcome” way.

“O-Okay!” I hold my hand up. “Okay, you can have that leg! That’s fine. Hated it anyway. Goes great with a side of dungeon dirt, I bet.”

Whoever said it’s easier to destroy things than to build them was a scammer, and I want my coin back.

“If you die, can I use your pelt as a cape?”

“They got the knees all wrong. And is that— No!” I hiss softly. “We do not have furry underbellies!”

“You are convinced, sister,” Lucien says, voice raw, “with delusions of grandeur.”
