He did not believe that all men are created equal. Essentially he said, “It’s only common sense. Look around. Some people are born with more abilities than others. Some are taller than others. Some are stronger than others. We’re not all equal.” What he did believe passionately, and would put his life on the line for, was the notion that all men are equal in the eyes of God and before the law.
