She was my favorite person.
She was the only girl who made me angry. Frustrated. Jealous. The only one who made me want to protect her from all the bad things in the world. The only girl I wanted to spend my time with. The only girl I wanted to talk about everything and nothing with.
I wanted to be her two in the morning person. The one who was there for her no matter what. Lila was mine. End of story.
“What happens when the stars fall, Jude?” “I’ll put them back in the sky for you,”
“It’s only ever been you,” he said, his voice low and husky in the stillness of my quiet bedroom. “Only you, Rebel.”
“I miss you, Jude. I miss you so much.” He laughed like that was a joke. “I’m right here. Standing right in front of you.” “Are you though? Are you really here?”
“Baby. I love you. Tell me what I can do to make this better. I’ll do anything.” “Put the stars back in the sky, Jude. It’s so dark and lonely without them.”
I’m sorry. For everything. But I know you’re going to be okay. When the chips are down, you always come back fighting. I don’t believe in much of anything anymore, but I still believe in you. I will always believe in you. Love always, Jude
I needed Lila’s forgiveness. I had to find a way to right my wrongs. I had to find a way to put the stars back in the sky.
“Thank you,” I said, turning in his arms and framing his face in my hands. “For what?” “For putting the stars back in the sky.” “You ain’t seen nothing yet, baby. I’m going to give you an entire universe.”
