“I guess not. But you definitely need a brain that functions beyond how many likes you can get on a picture of your rack. There’s more to life than that, Piper.”

“There’s just nothing to you, okay? There are thousands of Piper Bellingers in this city. You’re just a way to pass the time.” He shrugged. “And your time has passed.”

What does reality have to offer me? Guide me, O wise one.”
“The captain is a little sensitive about Piper,” Fox explained, still wearing that shit-eating grin. “He doesn’t know what to do with his confusing man feelings.”
It was like he could read her mind, knew everything about her, and liked it all. Wanted some of it for himself.
Hannah sucked in a breath. “Do you think he’s, like, courting you?”
In dirty jogging pants or sequins, she was still pergola worthy.
He grunted. “You ready?” “Ready for what?” “For me to ask you to dinner yet.” Her pulse tripped all over itself. Got up. Tripped again. “Did you think you needed to build a pergola to convince me?” “No. I, uh …” He tossed down the rag, shoved his hands into his pockets. “I needed something to keep me busy while I worked up the nerve to ask.”
And fuck, every time she cringed about the dirt under her fingernails, he wanted to lay her on a silk pillow and do all the work for her, so she wouldn’t have to. He wanted to do the spoiling. Badly.

“Can you be mad at me while I kiss you, baby? It’s all I’ve wanted to do for the last two weeks.”
And when her face transformed with pure joy and she waved enthusiastically, Brendan knew he loved her.
He could surprise her. Make her happy. Provide her with what she loved. Couldn’t he? Yeah. He could. Actually, he was looking forward to it.
Her eyes closed. “I know I love you, Brendan. I know I love you and that’s it.”
You have to marry him, Hannah mouthed. I know, Piper mouthed back. What the fuck?
