The Watcher came to nothing. So did the Mighty. And the Petition that was to be brought before God was denied because it came out of falsehood. That, right there, is the story that 1 Enoch presents centuries later in expanded form as the Book of the Watchers, chapters 6-16. The author of Genesis 38 was concealing a retelling of the Sin of the Watchers long before the 2nd Temple writers made their own.
