He was convinced that many of the problems in the world stemmed from a tribal, us-versus-them mentality that pitted one group against another: Jews against Christians, Israelis against Arabs, white against black, and countless other divisions.

“The Babylonian Talmud says, ‘Whoever destroys a single life is as guilty as if he had destroyed the entire world; and whoever rescues a single life earns as much merit as though he had rescued the entire world.’ I hope that one day I will be like my mother and my father, so generous in my heart as to draw God down from the heights to dwell among us.”
