After spending three and a half years with the Son of God, they requested, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1).
They had connected the dots and discovered that Jesus’ public life of ministry was the direct result of His private life of prayer.
Jesus taught them on how to access Heaven and change Earth.
We need a new breed of people, who like Mary, refuse to worship the god of busyness. They refuse to worship the god of distraction. These people are courageous in that they refuse to miss the moment, so they choose to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen.
Waiting before Jesus, sitting at His feet, listening to Him—these are the agents that draw the power and glory of God earthward!
When you sit at His feet, you become filled with the dreams of His heart, and that puts you to work to manifest His dreams in the earth. But it’s absolutely critical to find yourself at His feet, prioritizing Him over the stuff and needs around Him.
You know you are serving in a wrong spirit when you become aware of what other people are not doing. This kind of serving will ultimately lead to accusation against Jesus concerning His empathy and fairness.
In that moment, I realized God honors the words of His servants to the same degree that His servants honor His words.
Again, as I’ve said before, just make a consistent time and place to pray. Then show up and start reaching for God. It’s truly that simple.
“So, your first lesson in prayer is, when you think prayer, you think list, but I think Person. I want to introduce you to a Person, a place, and the Person’s name. It’s ‘Our Father in heaven, by the way.’”
the revelation of the Father is the first and primary lesson in growing in prayer.
According to the parable, you keep praying, knowing who God is, what He possesses, and who you are to Him. This is so important because, if you continue in your prayer life long enough, then you inevitably hit this wall where God is not breaking in according to your timetable. And you need to know what to do when that happens: You persevere.
The friend with the bread got up and gave the friend standing outside his house all that the friend outside needed because of the outside friend’s persistence, not because of their friendship.
Don’t back off. Lean in and ask our Father again.
My definition for the spirit of prayer is the deep awareness and confidence that I have God’s ear, God’s heart, and God’s hand. There is nothing greater in the whole world than walking in unity with God, communing with Him, and releasing His will into the earth, but this confidence is developed in a certain place: in the life of prayer.
Additionally, many in our day and age are suffering from extended adolescence, where they never enter adulthood through the rites of passage and are stuck in this middle place of no vision.
This shutting of the door is intentionally cutting off all the media outlets and making a time and place with God sacred.
I believe that one of the most besetting sins in this generation is laziness.
I believe revelation sees the end, and wisdom walks out the journey to get there. Another way to say this is revelation fuels the life of wisdom, and wisdom makes revelation a reality. So, we need both wisdom and revelation.
That is wisdom. It’s the practical daily steps I take to get to my destination.
Remember that wisdom builds the house; therefore, we must seek to build a life of daily practical choices that position us to receive revelation.
That cry, that expression of longing, coupled with your rising early will get God’s attention.
There are no superheroes in the Kingdom. There are simply weak people who long for more and who don’t give up. Every one of us are like distracted two-year-olds who can barely focus and make eye contact with God, yet the very weak reaching of our hearts moves Him and releases grace upon us to follow Him.
There is nothing more opposed to the purposes of God than the well-meaning intentions men perpetrate in their own human and religious zeal.
This place of divine fascination around revelation must become your reward.
If I’m approved by God, I can handle being rejected by men.
Preaching is an act of intercession as you stand in the gap between God and man in Christ, and help create a meeting place between the two.
Right now, the cry for Jesus to come is only a whisper, but it will become a roar before He returns.
This glory is the end-time outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all flesh across the earth. This glory will bring us where we cannot go outside of Him.
It is impossible for us to mature in God and develop apart from the active work of the Spirit in our lives and our yielded response to it.
Many will blame their uncomfortableness with the Holy Spirit on Charismatics and Pentecostals, and on the perceived disorder and chaos of their meetings.
He was letting us know that the nature of His fire is that it will get in between the most intimate of relationships for the purpose of God having you for Himself.
Many people aren’t aware of the fact that the Holy Spirit is our wedding gift from the Father. He is the guarantee, the dowry from the Father, ensuring our betrothal to Jesus. He is our assurance that we are His and that there is a day of consummation coming.
