Borrowed from CLP on 12/15/22 after reading and discussing Catfishing in Catnet with the author at Second Foundation on December 11. Great social and ethical world-building with religious and fantasy cults, the mysteries of missing mom and best friend, solid we’ve-got-your-back support from the Catnet clowder and Cheshire Cat; new friends and relatives; old - and new - enemies; Nell’s polyamorous family: father (Kent Reinhardt), and step mother (thing one, Mrs. Julia Reinhardt), father’s girlfriend (thing two, Ms. Jenny Hands-Renwick), and stepmother’s girlfriend (thing three, Miss Siobhan Garcia), p. 11 Her mother is a wacko cult-member but has legal custody. Stef is still feisty and courageous and kind and brilliant. New enemies, thrilling plot, great AIs (yes, there's a second one), and a badass grandmother! What's not to like? A lovely haunted house vignette on Summit Ave. Mimi, the super grandma! Former drag racer with combat driving skills, fearless and strong. On her phone she has two apps for encrypted texting, one for secure phone calls, a VPN, an app that uploads anything you video to a secure server, and six apps that look like they might be related to her car-theft hobby. She has no games or social media apps. And she grows roses competitively. all they want to do is help people and look at cat pictures - a proper AI raison d’être

She also received an email message giving her Annette’s address, and this same mystery person sent money to other members of the Clowder, enough that they could afford to get to Boston to rescue me.

I think that whatever works for you is fine, but polyamory sounds like a lot of work.
