them; male and female he created them.” There is no indication that one gender is superior or has greater value than the other. The story continues in Genesis 1:28: “God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Here we see Adam and Eve given shared responsibility and a shared mission to take care of what God created. There is no indication of hierarchy or superiority in any way.
