As with Glencoe, the Jacobite Risings are a fantastic example of how history can be perverted. There are some incontrovertible facts. It did mark the end of Highland culture. Atrocities against the local populace were committed by the Crown. But beyond that, it becomes a matter of perspective. The love of the underdog, particularly in Scottish culture (just look at our football team!), leads to a romantic view of Jacobitism. The handsome prince trying to reclaim his homeland.
