Writing in the Dark

My favorite answer to “Why I write horror?” is from Stephen King. When asked why he wrote about gruesome subjects, King once said, “What makes you assume that I have a choice?”

When characters not only survive but triumph against dark forces, we feel relief. We also feel that if characters in a story can do it, maybe we can too in real life.
