Physical prowess supersedes any deeper character failings. A pretty face will do.
He knows when to quit—lest he be threatened with imaginary stocks, potatoes and dungeons.
“Please do not try so hard to alter yourself,” Haruka says. As he speaks, Nino lifts his head and opens his vivid eyes. “I feel that you are lovely now. Just as you are.”
“Haru… I am not going to hurt you.” “Then why are your eyes alighted?” Nino frowns, thinking quickly. “Because it smells nice in here?”
Don’t be a brat. How’s Sussex? I hear it’s pretty shitty this time of year?”
He turns his head to look down at Haruka sitting on the ornate rug in the middle of the floor. A disarray of books and notes spirals outward from his position—he is the eye of an academic hurricane.
Haruka gently pulls to feed from him, and in exchange, Nino clearly senses his mind. Warm, quiet thoughts of gratitude and affection are being poured into him. The tenderness of it floods his body, making his breath short. It’s wonderful and singularly the most intimate thing Nino has ever experienced.
When Nino opens his eyes, they’re glowing in their beautiful golden hue. Haruka’s heart warms, looking into his handsome face.
The energy had rushed from Nino’s body like a spell. It was so pure and filled with deep affection, it was almost cleansing as it warmly caressed and wrapped itself around Haruka’s frame. “So while Haruka is dealing with busy vampire aristocracy bullshit and overseeing his entire realm alone, you’re going to open a bar across town so that humans and low-level vamps can gawk at you? You’re going to live in his house, eat his food and give him hand jobs when he comes home?”
He slides his hands up Haruka’s back underneath his coat. “I’m just happy you’re not mad at me for crashing your party.” Haruka lifts his head, looking into Nino’s face with his brown eyes. He runs his fingers into the back of Nino’s hair. His deep voice is quiet. “I would not be upset with you. I love you.”
