When you can calmly avert an escalation, you are gradually gaining control of your emotions. Try not to overthink or over-exaggerate the matter, it only makes things worse. Breathe in and do it slowly, you will feel your sense of reasoning coming back. You can practice some yoga moves or breathing exercises, this will help a lot.
