You might be thinking, If to love the Bible is to become wise, then why are so many Bible-loving people so awful and unwise—using the Bible in self-serving ways to defend ignorance, justify bias, and perpetuate fear and loathing? The answer is that they are using the Bible. They aren’t coming to the Bible to be shaped by it; they are coming to the Bible to shape it into what they want it to be.
