“That’s an ideal way to look at it. Enjoy the rest of your evening, and you have my number if some douche wants to try anything stupid with my girl.” “Your girl, huh?” “Lady? Life-long partner? It’s all the same.” He arched a friendly eyebrow at me. “And in all of those things, you’re most certainly mine.”
“Never live in the past, Breanne. You must learn from it, or you will never have the mindset to face life’s relentless challenges.”
“I like you a lot, Breanne. I don’t think I’ve ever taken an interest like this in any woman, much less a coworker. So, allow me to help and at least be here for you.”
“It’s called Sundazed,” she laughed again. “Byredo is the one you should blame, I guess?”
“Even the strongest person has a painful past,” I said, repeating a quote that rang too true about me.
“You can be so damn charming one second and such a stupid dick the next.”
“I should probably warn you that this smile of yours,” he touched my cheek, igniting sparks beneath his fingers, “will either be the death of me or put you in the backseat of a car delivering our child if you’re not careful.” “What?” I chuckled, touching my heated cheek. “Alex—” “Don’t Alex me with that smile,” he winked. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this beautiful.”
“I’m in love with you, Bree,” he softly said and laid his head against my chest. “I didn’t fully realize that until now.”
Shit happens everywhere every single day, but these stupid fucks who are being horrible to you mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, and you know it. Don’t let them turn you into someone you’re not. You are loved and supported, and you don’t have to go it alone. Tough times are why we have good friends, good sex, and hard liquor,”
“Well, slap the pig, and spit in the fire. Alex is in love,” Jim repeated a saying we’d heard some drunk cowboys use at a bar.
“I can promise you this right here and now that you’re the woman for me, and since I gave you more information than even Jim knows, you have to marry me now.” I laughed. “Nice try, buddy,” I smiled. “You think I’m going—” “I’m serious.” His eyes widened as if he’d seen the light, and the heavens opened up with some revelation. He sat up and framed my face with his hands. “I know that I’m decided on loving you and only you until I die. I know that I’ve never felt this way about anyone, and I know I never will. If you don’t feel it, then please tell me.”
