“It was she who placed a petal of ichor upon his lips. And when he stole her away, it was she who steered his chariot into the grave.”
“And I would tear the stars from the sky to see what you are capable of, Kore.”
The darkness in his eyes flashed with the fires of Tartarus. “Of course you will,” he replied. “Our story has just begun.”
“You were the one who said I had no limitations. I didn’t want them dead.” And so they lived. Goddess, indeed. He’d never seen someone who was as much his equal as this woman. Hades was thrilled. For the first time in a millennium, he wasn’t alone.
They were two souls reaching out for each other, he supposed. And he could only be satisfied if he could bask in her sunshine forever.
Becoming a woman meant having control over her own body. Knowing what she wanted someone to do and allowing them to do that. Not having someone else decide what she could and could not do.
“Marry me,” he repeated. “Never has there been another goddess who could single handedly bring the God of the Underworld to his knees. I cannot survive without you by my side. Rule with me on a throne made of bone and smoke.”
“Then so be it. A queen you shall be.” He melted from her arms like smoke drifting on the wind. But she knew he’d return.
He knew if she wanted the world at her feet, he would lay waste to the lands for her. And if she wanted the stars in the sky, he would rip them apart just so she could smile at him. That amount of emotion for another person was startling
“I will worship you until the day you are ripped from my arms into death. And even then, my wife, my queen, I will follow you into whatever end gods have.”
