Indeed, to this day we occasionally get a query from a reader trying to persuade us that WMDs were found. We reply that Bush’s top officials—including Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, and Colin Powell—have all acknowledged that there were no WMDs other than a cache of mostly decaying chemical weapons, nothing that warranted going to war over. In his 2010 memoir Decision Points, Bush himself wrote, “No one was more shocked and angry than I was when we didn’t find the weapons. I had a sickening feeling every time I thought about it.
