“Eliza has a friend that was a vegetarian.” Nathan smiles sweetly. “Recently converted to a carnivore and is apparently starving.”

He smiles softly. “And what happened to the beautiful birds?” “They flew off into the sunset and lived happily ever after.” He takes my hand over the table and kisses my fingertips. “I like that story.” “Me, too,” I whisper. “Me, too.”

“Be my girlfriend.” “What do I get for it?” “Me.” The most wonderful reward of all time. My heart swells, and I smile and kiss him softly. “It’s a good thing I love you.” “It’s the best thing.”

“It’s you Eliza. It’s always been you. And I know that my love for you started out platonic, but you have owned me since the day we met.”

“I don’t want you as a fucking friend, Eliza. I want you as my wife!” he shouts.
