A zero-sum approach dictates that any gains for Palestinians must mean a loss for Israelis, and vice versa. Of course, there is some truth to that view. In any situation where one group is privileged or is more powerful than another, a regime of equal rights necessarily means the loss of some power and privilege for one group and a gain of both things for the other group.
