Online spaces such as bulletin board systems (BBSs), chat rooms, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channels, blogs, multiplayer online games, and social media are not places of harassment and trolls, they argued; they are places where computer-loving iconoclasts, technically precocious boys like many of them had been, could really be themselves, find others like them, and broaden their horizons.
