All of these situations represent the possibility that the motivation for using an app is having free time and not being stimulated or not having something to do. A similar study from the UK reported that 52 percent of 1,350 adult smartphone users and 62 percent of those between eighteen and thirty reported that they prefer to use their device rather than just sit and think.
