He whispered back, “One wrong move, Brey ...” She rubbed his chest and looked at him with what I could swear was love in her eyes. “I know. I know.” She spun toward me, and I almost wished for that same look to be directed my way.
“Well, everyone calls me that now, Jax.” She may not have meant it as an insult but her grouping me in with everyone else felt like a sucker punch to the gut. I wasn’t supposed to be everyone. I was supposed to be the only one.
If she walked, I’d find someone else to be with, I reminded myself. Something in me screamed I would never find someone like her. I silenced that scream as best I could and stared at her like I’d walk away right then if she asked me to. I knew better. I just hoped she didn’t.
“Jax, I can't take my eyes off it.” “Hypnotic, I know.” Her neck tensed again because she knew damn well I wasn't talking about her view, I was talking about mine. My eyes only saw her, alone in my penthouse.
“Leave it to Jax Stonewood to always one up a man even when it comes to buying a girl a drink.” “She’s not a girl. She’s the girl. My girl.”
