While on the one hand, creativity depends upon the ability to imagine a different reality, to “distort” the ordinary into something better, on the other hand, this “distorter” can create one of the most painful aspects of ADHD, which is very low self-regard. We look at ourselves as if in a house of mirrors, not seeing ourselves as others do, seeing only what we regard as failures and shortcomings, all but blind to the upside, which is typically considerable.
