Some on the left want to address that issue through offering free college. I have two problems with free college: it’s free and it’s college. I think earned educational benefits—which could include community college, technical school, all sorts of skills training, as well as a university education—are far better. No one ever called the GI Bill “free college.” The men and women of our armed forces earn those educational benefits.
by serving with people who are different from you, we can repair the breach.
Democrats should throw open the doors of service to any American who wants to take it on. Benefits might include forgiveness of one’s existing college debt, stipends for future education and training, or maybe even a stake with which someone could start a small business or buy their first home.
