Our attorneys secured a promise to halt the practice in 2016, but it returned with a vengeance during the special election for a congressional race in 2017, the first of the Trump presidency. Once again, eligible citizens eager to participate in the election’s process had their applications held hostage by the state’s secret rule. However, because of our experience and that of others, attorneys filed a federal lawsuit. The federal court agreed with concerns about the delay, and the judge ruled that the policy violated the law.
