“Someone has been at my house, and I’m this close to ending your fucking life right now.” I look him straight in the eye, refusing to allow Lex fucking Edwards to intimidate me despite the fact he’s hot on my trail. “Do you think I’d be that stupid to break into your house? Besides, Charlie made it perfectly clear to me she’s married. You won. Game over. Leave now.” “Game over?” He lets out a chilling laugh. “I believe it’s still being played. I’m warning you, so listen carefully… if I catch you anywhere near Charlotte, and I mean anywhere near her, I’ll personally hunt you down and beat the

Whoever invented plastics chairs is a dickhead.
We’re all puppets in this freak show. Maybe I’m not so screwed-up, or worse yet, maybe I’m the most insane person sitting in this room. Something tells me the tranny sitting across from me has bigger issues.
“Stop being such a jerk in front of our new member, Jerry.” Penny looks directly at me and shoots me a wink. Jerry rolls his eyes. “Thank you… Penny?” I ask politely. “Yes, Penny… Penny Tration.” She bats her eyelashes at me this time. I shake my head unable to hide my smile, and obviously, I’m not the only one as Fred is bowing his head with a smirk on his face.
“I don’t believe you, Adriana. You say that about everything, and I can’t point out one thing you do wrong.” “You’re not looking hard enough,” she says, and there it is, that self-doubt. “I’m not looking for it.”
really am not a surprise type of person. When I was thirteen, my mom and sister decided to throw me a surprise birthday party. I still remember the moment when I walked into the house, and everyone jumped out and yelled, “Surprise.” I literally shit my pants.
“I need to go. I’m sorry, Nyree.” She covers herself with a cushion. Ha! So that’s what they are used for. “Is she worth it?” she asks. I think about my answer. “She’s worth it. She just belongs to someone else. Always will.”
“You’re just like my little toe because I’m going to bang you on every piece of furniture in my home.”
“I don’t feel that way.” My face meets hers, and I see the turmoil she’s in. “Why?” “Because I’m broken. I feel like a vase in a store that’s been chipped and cracked and left on the sale rack on clearance at ninety-nine cents, and everyone ignores it because they can’t repair it.”
And then there was Charlie. I did love her, I can’t deny that, but now I believe love comes in many forms, and sometimes, it’s powerful enough to be your reason for breathing. Charlie, as much as I did love her, was never my reason for breathing. She was my life jacket, keeping me alive in a blustering storm.
If only they had Skype in heaven.”
A moment later, Adriana appears, wearing cut-off denim shorts, white Adidas sneakers, and a T-shirt which reads ‘Keep Calm and Call Batman’ with a bat logo beneath it.
“I don’t have a daddy. My daddy has to work in heaven forever.”
“I don’t know what will happen. I can’t make promises. There’s only one thing I’m sure of… I want to live to see Andy grow. And…” she watches me as she speaks, her eyes wide, a mixture of fear and desperation, “… I want to see where we can go. It’ll be hard, I know. My brother, he’ll kill me, but this is my life, and I can’t deny my feelings anymore.”
“Adriana… you’re worth waiting for.” And with that, I raise her hand toward my mouth and tilt it sideways, placing my lips on the scars covering her wrists. Kissing them sends a warm rush within me, and in this moment, I know why everything that happened before this moment did happen. All in this one kiss.
