This is because leadership is not about power, title, or salary. Leadership is an act, a practice, a discipline to take care of the people around us, regardless of how the team, client, or executive is showing up. It’s how we make the world a better place for the person to our right and the person to our left. Leadership is about strength, integrity, gratitude, fortitude, patience, empathy, and generosity.
You are meant for so much more.
I love this quote from James Clear’s Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones (a great book, by the way): “With outcome-based habits, the focus is on what you want to achieve. With identity-based habits, the focus is on who you wish to become.”
They align with your organizations’ mission, vision, and values. They map to the top-level strategic goals (objectives and key results, or “OKRs”) of your organization. They’re a little scary! True growth happens through discomfort. Your goals should challenge you beyond your day-to-day cat herding and fire extinguishing. They pass the SMART test:
