The West does not, these days, seem especially healthy, robust, or spirited. Consider the mostly passive, obedient response to the coronavirus shutdowns—a passivity that continued long past when it was plain to all that the initial predictions of a doomsday plague were wrong. Consider also the swift capitulation to every woke demand, no matter how ridiculous or destructive, on the part of nearly every ostensibly “conservative” defender of American and Western civilization, from politicians to intellectuals to think tank presidents.
