Out of the corner of my eye, a lone diner caught my attention. Eclipsing the perfect view was a man who was even more stunning than what was out the window. His razor-sharp green gaze watched me with laser focus. I felt the heat of his attention all the way from where I stood, like a searing touch to my bare flesh. The hairs on my arms stood on end. When his focus skipped down my body, perusing and noting every inch, my blood warmed.
“You had your chance, cowboy. Just so you know, all I’m offering now is business.” “That’s fine. I’m not interested. In either.” “Yeah, tell that to your dick. Have a nice day.” I took my time walking away, knowing I had his attention, knowing his gaze was raking up and down my body. The guy was an ass, but I wasn’t completely defeated. I had maintained the upper hand in the end. Unfortunately, not where I needed it.
“You’re addictive, incredibly smart, witty, sexy, determined, and a whole lot insecure, which surprises me. This isn’t me turnin’ you away, but I’m an all or nothin’ kinda guy. If you want more than a quick fuck, you let me know.” One last blistering kiss followed his words.
I didn’t get far before Erwin spoke again. “He likes you, Lachlan. A lot. I see it in his eyes and in the way he talked about you all bloody night. Please don’t break my son’s heart. He doesn’t give it easily to just anyone, but he’s already handed it over to you, and I don’t think he even knows it.”
“I’ve never met anyone like him. At first, he made me crazy. He was so goddamn stubborn and irritating. Every time I tried to talk to him, he shut me down. He dug under my skin like no one ever has. Every time he bit, I found myself biting back. There was already a wild physical attraction between us and…” I shook my head. “I don’t know when it happened or how. We fought so much, then suddenly we weren’t fighting anymore.”
“When he looks at me, it’s like he can see into my soul. Like I’m the only person who exists. His eyes, they’re just… He’s honest and kind and stubborn and loyal to his family. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and when he touches me, I just… Christian, I don’t know how to describe it. Whenever we’re apart, I feel like something’s missing. I can’t stop thinking about him, and all I want is to be with him all the time.”
