I think he felt betrayed. He loved the depths of this country, and 100 percent believed in our protecting democracy against the Soviets, so to have been there and seen what was happening to the Hungarians—not just to the CIA operatives and his people, but all of them….Well, I think it cast a shadow over the rest of his days.”
