In Jesus’s first sermon in Luke 4, he says that the Spirit of God is upon him to announce good news. Notably, the good news (in this portion of Scripture) is not the promise of a disembodied salvation located in heaven upon death. Jesus’s gospel in Luke 4 is a very worldly one. He proclaimed, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
