What must it be like to see a version of the person you loved degrade and die, multiple times? She thought of that happening to Kai – of losing him, regaining him in such a dreadful way then losing him again – and repressed a shudder.
‘The ferrets! The ferrets are loose!’
It was a sad commentary on Irene’s life that, on waking up in chains, her first thought was Oh no, not again.
She saw Kai and Catherine exchange similar exasperated looks, and made a mental note to discuss justifiable risks with them later. Because there was going to be a later. Oh yes.
