“Are you happy? Do you want me to come pick you up?” His concern is palpable, even through the phone. “I’m in Louisiana.” My smile is genuine this time. That’s my dad, my hero. The man who uprooted his life in Chicago and took a huge pay cut to move to Georgia so that I could grow up with family. I don’t know what I did to deserve him, but I’m happy he’s mine.
