“Where you takin’ her?” Breaker whispers as he follows me out of Tiny’s room. “My room,” I say without hesitation. It’s where she belongs. Fuck me. My uncle was right. Tiny’s mine and I need to stop fighting it.
“Don’t worry, baby, I’ll lead the way. Just know that from here on out, you’re staying in here with me. I want you to be mine.” My eyes feel as if they’ll pop out of their sockets at any minute with his announcement.
“What I mean, Bitsy, is that as of the moment I scooped you into my arms and laid you down on my bed, you became mine. My woman, my ol’ lady and I’m not about to let you go.” The determination in his tone tells me the same thing his gaze does. He’s totally serious right now.
‘Gain her trust. Show her tenderness yet be firm. She’ll talk when she’s ready but prepare yourself it’s not going to be easy to hear.’
“Bitsy, when we get back tonight you’re mine,” he growls, releasing the grip on my hair he moves both hands to my waist to hold me in place. “I’ve been waiting for you to show me you were ready, and you have some shitty timing. But tonight, baby, when we get back from our little shopping trip, I’m officially making you mine.”
“Bitsy, when you and I go off together anywhere I handle the bill,” he says. “But I can pay for my own things,” I protest. “Not saying you can’t but when we’re going anywhere together, you let your ol’ man take care of it.”
“She’s the one I’ve been waiting for. I remember my dad telling me when you find the one who speaks to your soul you’ll know. Fight if you want but in the end your heart will take you where it’s meant to be,” I say,
Trust me when I say this because I don’t say it lightly. The moment I saw you step around Shadow, I knew you were meant to be mine. I fuckin’ love you woman.”
Lifting a hand to cup the side of her face, I stroke the tears away from her cheeks. “Don’t cry, baby. It guts me seeing you in tears.” “I’m sorry. I–I just was so scared that if you knew you wouldn’t want me. I love you too, Darren, and that scares the hell out of me.” I pull her into me wanting to comfort her.
“We have a code, brothers. Never harm those we love. Never bring the innocent in the middle. Never let our backs be put to the wall. Those women are innocents from now on. We can do this ourselves.”
“Bitsy, didn’t I tell you that I love you?” I ask, softly. “Yes, but you could have changed your mind,” she murmurs. “That’s not going to happen. Besides my sister, I’ve never told another woman I loved her.
What you need to understand now, is that you are it for me. No one else is going to be able to do what you have.” Leaning forward, I brush my lips against hers. “What’s that?” “You own my fuckin’ heart, baby, that’s what you do.”
Knowing that I can come to you helps with my anxiety. So please just stop keeping me at arm’s length out there. I can handle myself because I trust in you that if I begin to fall you will be there to make sure I’m not hurt.”
“I love you,” I cough out. “I love you too, Darren. Stay with me. I can’t lose you. Please. Please. Just hold on,” she sobs. “You can’t lose what will always be with you.” Shouts come from all directions as Tiny screams for help. “Promise me, Bitsy, that you’ll go on living for me,” I murmur, reaching up to touch her.
“God, you had me scared out of my mind,” I whisper. “There’s no way I could leave you, Bitsy,” he murmurs. “Told you, you hold my heart. I’m not going anywhere.” “You better not. I don’t want to live without you.” I say, tears falling down my cheeks. “Good, because when I get out of here, I’m puttin’ my ring on your finger. You’re stuck with me, Bitsy,” he declares before letting his eyelashes flutter back down and drifts off back to sleep.
“Rest for now. Know that I’m here and nothing will happen to you. Trust me, Chains, the way I do in you. And yes, I’ll marry you even if that was a crappy proposal,”
