one truth had prevailed: people were just people. At the end of the day, the driving force behind everyone’s actions was a desire for security in the future. Food, succor, and stability in later years.
In addition to a desire for stability, one other constant was the ability of humans to create location-based prejudices, no matter how small they might be.
“You’re pests. Rather like spiders. You know how it is. Everyone knows that spiders are all over the place, but so long as you never see them, you are content to let them live. But the moment you spot one hanging above your dinner table…well, it has to die. If enough spiders show themselves, it’s time to call the exterminators.”
