According to the academic research, their modest universal no-strings cash entitlement hasn’t made them work less, although it has made more people who hadn’t worked take part-time jobs, especially women, apparently because the dividend helps them afford childcare. It also seems to make for better nutrition, with fewer underweight newborns and fewer obese toddlers, especially among the poor, and it has lifted a third of Alaska’s officially poor rural Native citizens above the poverty line.
