“Don’t ever let her go again, Darius Acrux,” I growled in his ear. “Don’t you hurt her or let her down or make her cry. I don’t know how we’ll fix everything, but we will. And when we do and you two can love each other like you’re meant to, I won’t take any shit from you.” He chuckled in a low tone as he released me and tapped me on the nose. “It’s a deal, Gwen,”
But instead of finding Mildred there, I found fucking Gabriel, grinning at me like some crazy asshole as he removed the illusion spells he'd put in place to make himself look like Mildred. "Hey, husband,"
I gazed at my mate in front of me. A man I had chosen for myself, regardless of stars and fate and laws.
Fuck, no, I’ve got too much life to live. I never told Cal how I feel.
"One year," the voice breathed. "To love her like you ache to. To be the best of yourself. One year and no more." "You want me to buy her life with my death?"
"A fresh start," the voice confirmed. "Every bond placed upon the two of you by the stars wiped away."
"A year to live the life you yearn for. A year to find out if you really are the man you wish to be."
It was a sacrifice I wished I didn't have to make with every single part of my soul. But I'd known that I would give my life for my girl for a long time now. So it really wasn't a choice at all.
"Descendant of the deceiver. Son of the destroyer. Do you offer your life in payment for the breaking of the bonds?"
"I accept your terms," I growled in a deep voice that echoed with finality. "And I offer my life in payment."
