It was the smack of electricity slamming into my flesh and burning me from the inside out. It was the taste of charred flesh on my lips and the sound of my screams filling the air. He was responsible for that. And even the idea of lingering in his company had me fearing it happening again.
he called, raising his arms again as he beckoned, looking towards the trees that surrounded the palace grounds like he expected something to emerge from them. Clara allowed me to turn my head and I caught Caleb’s gaze as his eyes widened in horror. “Nymphs,” he breathed, hearing more than I could with his gifts and making my skin crawl as I tried to turn further towards the approaching monsters.
“Such a large trout you are.” “That’s my trout she’s talking about,” Max said cockily, getting to his feet and Geraldine’s foot shot out, slamming right into his dick. He crumpled forward with a wheeze, and she pushed him aside as he got up, tutting under her breath. “You are always in my breathing space, Max Rigel, if you don’t want your Long Sherman in my way then take your leave.”
“Go ahead,” Lionel grunted as a door snapped closed wherever he was and I bit my lip as a shiver of fear danced down my spine. I reached for the jar, picking it up and feeling the power of the runes used to contain the bolt of lightning inside it as I unlocked them the way he’d taught me. This was what I deserved for letting Darcy and the others get close to me like that. For letting them try and take me from my king. I needed this punishment. It was the only way to set things right.
“Lance, you’re now under house arrest. It’s the King’s orders,” she breathed, glancing over at Lionel who smirked victoriously. “I’ll ride in the back with him,” Lionel announced, opening the door for me, and gesturing mockingly for me to get in. In the pit of my gut, I knew this was worse than staying in Darkmore.
“And are we, or are we not about to ram our truth down the throats of those vile K.U.N.T.s?” I proceeded. “Yes. But-” “So, are we A.S.S. ramming or are we ramming the K.U.N.T.s? Because so help me, Angelica, I can’t think of a simpler way to phrase our noble work.”
The moment the punch landed, the force of a thunderstorm crashed into my body, and I shrieked with pain as it burned me from the inside out, thrashing against the vision of Darius in my mind and the straps which held me to the chair in reality. My brain tried to keep hold of what was happening, what was real and what was a lie, but everything was blurring together as Vard used his powers until all of it merged into one and the cruelty in Darius’s eyes was the only thing I was truly certain of alongside the agony in my flesh.
I smiled like an idiot as I wrapped my arms around him and squeezed him tight as he spun me in a circle. “I’m so glad their plan to bring you back worked,” he muttered. “Shit, dude, don’t start crying on me. I thought you were meant to be an asshole?” I teased and he laughed against my hair as he gave me an extra squeeze.
no mercy, sire. A Dragon’s word is law. But the decision has come from you, now forget my words.” The power of his Dark Coercion filled his voice in an undertone that made my stomach lurch. Hail blinked, leaning back in his seat and horror filled me as he called out to the crowd. “You have been found guilty of your crime.
“Give me back my mind,” he gasped at last, clutching it to his chest in desperation as he stared up at the sky. “No more shall die at my hand.” “It is not your hands,” the star whispered, and Hail groaned because he didn’t understand. And it hurt me, because I did. I knew the truth, and it looked like he’d died without ever knowing it.
He got up and shot away with his Vampire speed before I could stop him, and my heart lurched painfully as he just left me lying there in the dirt. I shifted back into a Wolf, howling after him in a plea to come back. But he didn’t and I had the horrible feeling I’d just fucked up everything.
“Don’t tell me, he makes you call him Gabriel,” Dante groaned dramatically. “He’s such a stronzo sometimes.” The penny finally dropped, and I snorted a laugh. “You call him Gabby?” “Yeah. He loves it. Don’t let him tell you different. So, can you help me with my little Dragon bitch issue, principessa? Because if this Coercion makes me fuck her, my wife will cut my balls off and I happen to be pretty damn fond of them.”
I bit my lip as I slowly took another drink, hiding my amusement as Orion tried to subtly cast healing magic on his balls while pushing himself upright again. “Why?” he hissed, and I cut him a look that said ‘you know why’ to which he muttered beneath his breath something along the lines of me being a fucking psychopath and feeling sorry for Darius if that was how I treated his junk.
“You were Coerced to come here tonight,” I said angrily. “That doesn’t sound like you were willing to me.” Catalina blanched. “A few years ago, one of his political contacts wanted more than flirting from me and when I refused, he tried to pull out of a major deal Lionel had wanted to make. So, to save the deal he told me to go through with it and when I refused again, he just...”
She’d dropped a mirror in her wake, and I hurried forward, picking it up and checking my reflection. Oh shit. I looked like a deranged yeti with a glittering horn poking out the centre of my face and huge fangs peeking out of my mouth. I stared in the direction I’d launched Kylie; sure I could still hear her screams carrying to me. I have no regrets.
“Right, c’mere.” Seth whipped the vine and grabbed Geraldine by the ankle with it, dragging her toward him. I caught her hand with a laugh as she wailed like a banshee and I was hauled across the floor with her. “Let me go, my lady!” Geraldine cried. “I shall go into the eternal night for you. You must live on to produce many a babe with the most handsome of kings!” “Well, that would be me then.” Caleb shot forward, diving onto my back and clinging on as Seth heaved us all across the floor. “Caleb,” I laughed as he tickled me to try and make me let go of Geraldine.
I smirked as I picked it up, rubbing the gold between my thumb and forefinger and enjoying the little thrill of magic I gained from it. Just as I was about to turn away from the path, a deep blue gemstone caught my eye further into the trees and I grinned as I headed over to claim it.
They’d just have to accept the fact that the Vegas wouldn’t actually be wearing any crowns when the time came for the kingdom’s new rulers to ascend. Because to claim the throne they’d have to prove they were stronger than us and I had trouble believing that day would ever come to pass.
he replied, shoving my Astrology book aside so he could curl up against me better, yawning like a tired pup. I’d never had a pet dog, but I imagined it was kinda like this. Which was totally weird, but there was something about him lying on me or the way he did with the Heirs that just seemed natural.
“You mean when he sacrificed himself for you so you might have a chance to take down Lionel? So that you wouldn’t lose everything including your place at the one academy capable of training up a Fae of your power level and giving you a real chance for the throne? By the stars, what an asshole,” he growled mockingly, and I pursed my lips. “No, you’re right, Darcy. I won’t stand for it. How dare he throw himself into the most dangerous place in Solaria and face months of hell in Darkmore because of how much he loves you? How fucking dare he.”
His eyes cleared until they were just his again, deepest midnight blue and full of terror. But not for himself. For me. I couldn’t even feel the pain anymore, a numbness seeping into my body, but the growing pool of heat around me told me there was a lot of blood. And I suddenly found I had no strength at all. It didn’t matter though. Because he was okay. The shadows no longer had hold of him, and they never would again.
“This is the end of your reign of terror, Lavinia.” “You can’t just kill me,” I gasped. “I’m a princess of my kind. There is no other left to lead them.” “You are nothing but a princess of the shadows now, so you will die with them,” the Queen growled, clutching the Imperial Star in her hand and murmuring something to it.
flesh from my bones all at once, blinding me in agony. My back slammed hard against something as I screamed and when she finally withdrew the shadows from my flesh, I found myself strapped to the chair from my nightmares, bloody and panting and filled with a fear so pure it was paralysing. “My foolish son has been worming his way back into your heart, hasn’t he?” Lionel sneered as he stood over me
She swallowed thickly and shook her head. “There isn’t anything,” she breathed, a tear slipping down her cheek as she looked up at me. “I’m sorry, Darius. I don’t want you to have to do this for me.” “I would do anything for you,” I growled fiercely, swiping the tear from her cheek as it felt like my entire chest was caving in
“Lance, please don’t say goodbye,” my words caught in my throat as pain burrowed into my core. “I have to,” he rasped. “Just in case. I’m so fucking sorry for everything I did to you. To us. I ruined everything. And I know it can’t be fixed. That I made it nearly impossible for you to trust me when we first met, and when you finally did and I earned your heart, I broke that trust irreversibly.”
“What the fuck?” I roared at her, my temper fraying as she melted the ice restraints off of her arms and rolled over. But instead of finding Mildred there, I found fucking Gabriel, grinning at me like some crazy asshole as he removed the illusion spells he’d put in place to make himself look like Mildred. “Hey, husband,” he teased,
