It was pretty complex, an interlinking design of triangles and interlocking lines that mapped out the alignment of the heavens on the night that had changed everything. Gabriel was the one who’d told me to get it, showing up at my room and telling me he’d seen it. The moment I laid eyes on the design he’d sketched out I’d known in my soul that he was right about it being destined to mark my flesh.

“You’d love being dominated by me, Roxy,” he promised. “I’d pin you down and make you scream so good you’d forget all about trying to stop me as I marked you as mine so thoroughly that you’d never doubt that it was true ever again.”

“Have heart, my lady!” Geraldine cried. “We are true of honour and have the stars at our backs. We cannot fail.”

I couldn’t bear her looking at me like that and in the haze of my mind, I leaned down without really making the decision as a thread of fate seemed to drag me toward her. I pressed my mouth to hers, transfixed.

She was mine. Destined to be mine by the stars. The girl who should have been my Elysian Mate and was so much more besides. I needed this. I needed her. I’d been like the moon without the light of the sun without her all this time. Cold and pale and void of life. But she lit me up and made me burn. And I never wanted to stop burning with her.

“I don’t know if it can be repaired, Seth,” I said, the pain in me splitting open like a sealed box cracking in my chest. He cupped my cheek, giving me an intent look. “If you both want it enough, it can be.”

Fucking smirked. My heart collided with my throat, and I folded my arms as I tried to regain some composure, but I was pretty sure I’d lost that the moment I’d freaked out and acted like the house was burning down.
