The pain of my separation from Roxy cut me open and made me bleed with every day that passed.
“We won’t die,” he said with a shrug. “We’re the Heirs and the Savage Princess. Darcy and the dudebros. Wolfman, Bitey C, Fish Fury, Dragzilla, and the Phoen Dream.”
I closed my eyes to drink in the image, but somehow, behind the confines of my closed eyelids, I found myself imagining a golden Dragon instead.
But as I took a sip of the coffee Darius had left for me, the strangest stirring twisted my gut and for the first time in months, even the shadows weren’t enough to quiet the whispers in my mind. But I still couldn’t hear what they were trying to say.
just needed my girl back to herself or it was going to kill me.
I miss her too. I miss her in every moment of every minute of every day. I will always miss her.
She was becoming the queen she was always meant to be. It was just hard to accept that I was never going to be her king.

As he removed his shirt, my gaze caught on a tattoo above his right hip of two Phoenixes flying together and my brow furrowed as a memory was tugged to the forefront of my mind before being swept away again on a tide of shadows.
P.S. Give Lionel Acrux hell for what he has taken from you and what he is yet to take.
She stiffened as I held onto her but didn’t do anything to stop me as she remained crouched in front of me with her gaze hunting mine. I didn’t try to hide anything from her, showing her every broken, bloody, hurting piece of my soul because it belonged to her anyway.
My stomach churned as Eugene screamed while he was dragged out of sight and my arm twitched where it hung beside Roxy’s. The back of her hand slid against mine, causing heat to prickle across my skin and for the briefest moment, her little finger hooked around mine, making my heart leap as I looked down at her. She didn’t look back, didn’t blink, or react in anyway as our hands stayed joined for just a few seconds before she released me again.
“Right. Well, as much as I like brunettes, I’m currently hooked on one who needs us to chase her into a cage and drug her, so shall we get on with that?” I suggested and they all agreed.
“Like you think I’m about to attack you. I fucking love you, Roxy,” he growled. “Why the hell would you think I’m going to try and do something to cause you pain?”
For a moment I was paralysed in fear and panic but in the midst of it, the call of the Phoenix fire in my blood centred me and I found a girl between the flames, her body coated in fire like mine and her arms outstretched to me in a silent plea.
He waited until Darcy and Gabriel were out of sight before flicking his fingers and casting a silencing bubble around us. “Show me,” he demanded, and I sighed.
Gabriel’s shoulder brushed mine as we waited for her to speak, but she didn’t, she just opened her arms to us with a choked sob and I ran to her, jumping onto the bed and falling on top of her as I crushed her in my arms. “I’m so sorry,” she sobbed, and I held her tighter as I fell into the space beside her, kissing her forehead and keeping her close.
My gaze dipped to his inked torso for a moment, and I paused as I spotted a new tattoo which curved over his left hip bone and disappeared beneath his shorts. But before I could get a good look at it, he hitched his shorts an inch higher and hid it from view. “You’re gonna have to get my pants off if you wanna see that one, Roxy,” he teased, and I found myself replying before I could think it through.
I headed for the door, but Xavier called out to stop me before I could pull the door wide. “Darius never gave up on you, you know that right?”
That was my girl, calling me on my bullshit the moment I tried to give her it and I couldn’t help but smile just a little as I saw that glimpse of herself.
“We’re going out,” I called to Seth and Cal as I drew her towards the floor length window by the back wall. “Don’t wait up.” “But how are you going to-” Seth began but Caleb slapped a hand over his mouth. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” he teased, and I rolled my eyes at him
“Have you ever been to New York City before, Roxy?” Her eyes widened as she turned to look towards the street where bright lights lit up the far end of the alleyway and I just watched her while a smile tugged her lips up. “No freaking way,“ she murmured before taking off so suddenly that I was hard pushed to keep up with her.
My girl was hungry, and she wasn’t gonna wait in line like some regular fucker.
“Apologise to my girl for laying your hand on her,” I snarled as several people around us started sidling away like they could tell I was about to beat his smarmy face in. “I’m sorry - I didn’t know she was yours,” he gasped. “Sorry, man. Sorry-”
Having Orion’s new number was a treat in itself. I sent him daily photographs of me and Darcy together with captions like #sheaintblueoveryounomore and #teamDeth. He’d blocked my number after threatening to rip my intestines out and strangle me with them – among other murderous threats - but then I got a magical app which sent my texts from anonymous numbers so he couldn’t keep me away. It was hilarious. And very intentional. Because I was officially kickstarting Mission: Get Darion Back Together.
I cut him a look and mimed snipping a pair of scissors with my fingers while he grimaced, shifting a protective hand over his balls as he shook his head in horror at me.
Oh fuck. I gazed at the stars, shaking my head at them. You wouldn’t do that to me. Come on, I’ve suffered enough, haven’t I? Don’t let her be fucking him. I’ll make a deal with you right now. You can have a limb. Any limb. Just pick a limb. The glittery shitbags remained deathly quietly, but I had the feeling they were laughing at me.
He started sending a bunch of pictures of his baby and family and my heart squeezed. Dammit that baby was cute. I just wanted to squeeze his chubby cheeks and tickle his round belly and – oh right, I’ve got a life-or-death mission to go on that needs my attention.
