Without ontological grounding we can only react from womb to tomb. Life becomes an eternal hall of mirrors. We can never be stable in a life of reaction, because our significance is dependent on others or on our own cleverness and self-talk. “Salvation from God,” by contrast, is a gift of self, from the one who is more truly me than I am by myself.
