For readability, our study showed that it was overall worthwhile: engineers who had achieved readability were satisfied with the process and felt they learned from it.

But was it worth the cost to the rest of the engineers (those that the process slowed down); to the organization (it could have overall resulted in slower delivery of features; even if at the cost of quality, sometimes that trade-off is the right trade-off) and thus less market share and revenue. Perhaps GCP could have benefited from faster time-to market with good-enough-for-initial-releases quality.
