“Wait a second, Max.” I take three steps to him and lightly take hold of his chin, tilting it up toward me. His blue eyes look directly into mine. There is no avoidance, no shifting, no awkwardness. “What happened to you?” He shrugs and turns back around. I stare after him as he disappears behind a closed door. Should I worry? Maybe this is only temporary, moments of clarity brought on by the stress of our situation.
