If we fail to grasp that time is more important than money, for example, we might compare the distress typically felt by those who are running out of each. No one values time; everyone spends it extravagantly, as if it were free. But see how these same people clasp the knees of physicians if they fall ill and the danger of death draws nearer; see how ready they are, if threatened with capital punishment, to spend all that they have to live longer!
