The grey clouds condense in the distance, forming one thick layer over the other until the air is nearly black. Looks like the sky might start weeping, too. But why would it? Did it even know the woman lying in the casket?
Dust to dust. Ironic. The start is always the end, isn’t it?
Aurora Harper sold her soul to the devil. It goes without saying that she’ll never be able to escape me.
Aurora is mine, and I’ll bring chaos to the world to protect what’s fucking mine.
My breathing hitches as I meet Jonathan’s raging grey eyes. “Fascinating, Aurora. Fascinating indeed.”
“Don’t cry again.” His voice is hard yet tender at the same time. “Those eyes aren’t made for tears.”
He hesitates. It’s the first time I’ve witnessed Aiden hesitating. “Jonathan never looked at her the way he looks at you.”
“You don’t seem to understand what it means to be mine. It’s not only about how you belong to me, or that I’ll cut off the dick of any bastard who looks your way and shove it up his arse. It’s also about how I’ll protect you from the world and yourself if I have to. It’s about burning your obstacles so you can leave the shadows and shine like you were always meant to. You can provoke or test me or even give me that fucking attitude, but you do not get to run away from me.”
“Okay.” “Okay, what?” “Okay, I won’t run away from you, Jonathan. Looks like I’m stuck with you.” “You sure as fuck are.”
I’ll keep owning her until I put a fucking baby inside her. In the past, Aiden was the only offspring I needed, but now, I’m chaining Aurora to me, and if a baby is what it’ll take, then that’s what it will be.
When I told Jonathan that after losing my inhibition due to alcohol, he said he was proud of me. And I might have climbed him and demanded he take me then and there.
“The world is at the tip of your fingers.” “It is not.” “It is now. I’ll bring the world to its knees in front of you. All you have to do is ask.” “Why?” I whisper. “Why what?” “Why would you do that for me?” “Because the world needs to bend the knee for my queen.” My queen. My mouth falls open and my eyes nearly bug out.
“Why the fuck are you asking these questions? We already established that Ethan, or anyone else, is off the fucking table. I wouldn’t share you for the rest of your life.” “You mean your life?” “Your life. Death won’t stop me, wild one. I’ll find a way, even as a ghost.”
“I’m not protecting you because you’re a woman. I’m protecting you because you’re my woman.”
“This is your final warning. Provoke me with Ethan or any other man again, and I’ll fuck you in front of them. After I kill them, of course, because no one gets to see you naked but me.”
“In case you haven’t figured out the answer, listen carefully, Aurora,” he whispers in dark words against my mouth. “I will not let you go.”
“I’m not going anywhere.” “No?” “I’ve kind of gotten used to you. It’d be weird to get a different roommate.” “Is that so?” “I think so. I love you, Jonathan.” He smiles, a genuine one that lights his grey eyes and threatens to stop my heart. “You do, huh?”
For him, the proposal was simple. He slid the ring on my finger and said, “You agreed to stay, what did you think it would be?”
“We can bring Eli, but not his parents.” She laughs. “I have the perfect gift for him.” “How about me?” “Are you jealous of a toddler, Jonathan?” “I don’t like being left out.”
